The Union County Torah Center will be hosting a “Chassidic Farbrengen” in commemoration of “Yud Shevat” (10th day of the Hebrew month of Shevat) on Wednesday Evening, February 4th, at 8:00 P.M. at the Torah Center, 509 Central Ave. in Westfield. The Farbrengen is free and open to the public.
Yud Shevat commemorates the Yahrtzeit (passing) of Rabbi Yoseph Yitzchok Schneersohn, in 1950. He is renowned for his devoted efforts in strengthening Judaism in the USSR, USA, and worldwide. A prolific writer, he is said to have written over 100,000 letters in his lifetime. This day also marks the beginning of the leadership of his son-in-law, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, of blessed memory.
A farbrengen is an informal gathering in which people get together to celebrate their Judaism by means of song, stories, and words of inspiration.
